What Is A Capstone Project?
A capstone project is the culminating experience of a doctorate of occupational therapy program. It allows students to demonstrate in-depth knowledge in a practice or service area in which they have identified a need.
Why This Topic?
My capstone focuses on creating a continuing education resource for caregivers that teaches strategies that facilitate safe and effective sleep. It is specifically designed to be trauma-informed. Almost all foster children enter the system with some form of trauma, and one of the earliest symptoms of trauma is difficulties with sleep. When a child enters a new home, many changes come with that: a new room, new caregivers, and a whole new routine. The child may feel fearful and uncertain around bedtime. This course aims to provide strategies such as changes to the environment, modifications to routine, free resources, and education to equip you with all the things necessary to allow the child to feel safe around bedtime.
How Does This Course Work?
This continuing education course includes three modules covering various strategies and topics around sleep. After a module has been completed, a quiz is linked below. Once the quiz is completed, it will automatically redirect you to the next module. Once all modules are complete and quiz three is completed, you will be automatically redirected to a certificate of completion that you are able to download and/or print out for 2 CEUs. Additionally, there is an optional survey that can be completed at any time during the course. Please consider filling it out as your feedback is important to the future development of these courses. Thank you!
